Western Music and Cowboy Songs

Don's new album is a nice mixture old cowboy songs, swing tunes of the '20s and '30s, and more contemporary offerings from modern songwriters. "Coyotes," by Bob McDill, is a beautiful tribute to the disappearing cowboy way of life. Don renders it superbly, and you'll find yourself singing the coyote yip from this song. "The Old Cow Man," a poem written by Charles Badger Clark, has been set to music by Edwards. It, too, pays homage to the disappearing open ranges.
    "Doney Gal" and "The Rancher's Song" are traditional songs arranged and adapted by Edwards. Among the new cowboy songs are "Prairie Lullabye" by Stephanie Davis, "Line Shack Blues" Roger Brown and Luke Reed, and "Will James" Ian Tyson's exceptional effort.
    "Goin' Back To Texas," was written many years ago by Carlson Robison, and "Lonely Cowboy" is a song originally recorded by Andy Parker and the Plainsmen.
    Don Edwards is a dedicated student of cowboy and western music. There are few people, anywhere, who know more about the genre than he does. And there are only a handful of singers who can render these great songs with the melody and heart that Edwards brings to them. It is always good advice to listen to, and collect, Don Edwards music.
