As the local historians tell it, fiddling first came to this small town in Idaho in 1863 when the Logan family established a way station on the banks of the Weiser river.  Emigrants driving their covered wagons on the Oregon Trail would stop there for rest, relaxation and fiddle music.  As for organized competitions, newspaper accounts of fiddle contests date back as far as 1914.
Every year since 1963 fiddlers' the world over have been keeping the third full week in June reserved for the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest held in Weiser, Idaho.  Their common bond is a love of traditional American music and it brings nearly ten thousand people annually to this small town in the sagebrush country of the Snake River and Columbia Plateau.
