Western Music & Cowboy Songs

The Lobo Rangers specialize in songs of the American West, which began its development during the great trail drives of the latter part of the 19th century. The music was originally conceived as a solo form by itinerant cowboys singing songs not only to soothe their own souls, but also those of the cattle they herded. The European influences (many of the large ranching outfits were owned by English and Scottish immigrants) blended with the cowboy’s experiences to produce a wonderful musical record of this period in the development of the West.
With the advent of the Hollywood "B" western of the 30’s and 40’s, the music was expanded to include group singing and spawned such aggregations as Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneers, Andy Parker and the Plainsmen, and Foy Willing and the Riders of the Purple Sage.
Our music tells of this brief and exciting period of American westward expansion and seeks to preserve the values of individual freedom and perseverance that were so much a part of the pioneer spirit.
