A popular face at a wide variety of cowboy events is that of Red Steagall, a Texas cowboy who has made a name for himself as a singer, songwriter, and record producer.  Red and his wife, Gail, turn up at rodeos, poetry gatherings, cowboy symposiums, and celebrity roping and cutting events, where Red is pretty handy with a lariat.
Red is probably best know for his Texas swing dance music and such songs as "Here We Go Again," "Party Dolls and Wine," "Freckles Brown," and "Lone Star Beer and Bob Wills Music."  He has had more than 200 of his songs recorded and has written songs for several movies, including Savannah Smiles and Dark Before Dawn.
After graduating from West Texas State University with a degree in Animal Science and Agronomy, Red drifted into the music industry.  He spent eight years as a music industry executive in Hollywood, and has spent the last 12 years as a recording artist.  Red has performed at rodeos and fairs and even did a show at the White House for Ronald Reagan, back in 1983.  He and his band have toured Gewmaany, Spain, Australia, and the Middle East.
Red has hosted several television shows, including broadcasts of the National Finals Rodeo; and he has acted too, in Dark Before Dawn and Benji The Hunted.   Red has also produced a movie, Big Bad John, starring Jimmy Dean, Jack Elam, Ned Beatty, Bo Hopkins, and Jerry Potter.  Another thing that Red did was to help Reba McIntyre get her professional singing career started.
Despite all of that show business stuff, Red is still just Red Steagall, West Texas cowboy.  He is often a welcome guest at ranch bunkhouses and brandings.  The next time you see him, give him a howdy.  You’ll enjoy the meeting.
