Rex Allen
Western Music, Cowboy Songs & Ballads
Rex Allen, known as the Arizona Cowboy, was the last of the
silver-screen cowboys. He came from a ranching family, and could ride a horse at
an early age. Allen tried his hand at the rodeo business, but that came to a swift
end, mainly due to injuries. Rex, who’s father was a fiddle player, also had a
knack for music; he played guitar and had a mighty fine singing voice. In 1950
"The Arizona Cowboy" was released, it was Allen’s first film with
Republic Pictures. His various sidekick co-stars included Slim Pickens and Buddy
Ebsen, and of course "Koko the Wonder Horse." He may have been the last of the
silver screen cowboys, but it didn’t end there for Rex. He continued his music
career with radio and made a number of recordings, including; "Crying In The Chapel,"
"Streets Of Laredo," "Marines Let's Go," and others.
