Sons Of The San Joaquin
Western Music & Cowboy Songs
It’s too bad nobody’s making a Western-style musical these days. Jack Hannah could darn sure write the songs for it.
There are Hannah originals on this exceptional collection that could hold their own against anything you ever heard
in Paint Your Wagon or Oklahoma or Showboat.
Among the great songs here that lend themselves well to big production are "A Cowboy’s Heart Is In The Saddle," "Way
Out Yonder," "Ridin’ Up The Glory Trail," and "The Lord Of The Rolling Hills," which is fabulously delivered by the great
operatic tenor of Joe Hannah. This last one could and should be sung at every cowboy church service. And it’s a perfect
song for a large church choir.
Another song with a religious flavor is "Song From Nara Visa," with words by Ken Lee and music by Jack Hannah. This
one is sung wonderfully by Lon Hannah. Lon Hannah also takes the lead on "Little Cowboy," a terrific Bill Thornberry lullaby
sung from the viewpoint of a cowboy to his small son.
Other Jack Hannah originals are "It’s The Open Range For Me," a love song "Santa Fe Lights," "The Famous Long X Brand,"
and the haunting "Ballad Of Joaquin Murietta," about the famed California outlaw. There’s also "Where The Very Same Cottonwoods
Grow," Jack’s fresh and inspiring look at the famous battle of the Alamo.
Rounding out this collection are the Tim Spencer classic, "There’s A Rainbow Over The Range," and Stone and Tenney’s "Mexicali Rose."
The Hannahs are from California, but they know a great cowboy music producer when they hear one, and they’ve enlisted
our favorite, Texan Rich O’Brien, to make this as good a Western album as you’ll hear anytime, anywhere. And Rich jumps in with
his fabulous guitar licks where ever appropriate.
Jack Hannah has written more top-quality cowboy songs than he’ll ever be able to record. Thank the good Lord he’s been able
to share these and previously recorded songs. May the Hannah family continue to crank out great cowboy and Western songs for
many years to come.
