He’s back, and he’s as clever, funny, and musically entertaining as ever. Richard Crowder, a.k.a. Sourdough Slim, never fails to draw smiles, laughter, and wild applause as he plays guitar, hawmaonica, and accordion and delivers his utterly unique style of cowboy music.
This album is pure delight. To start with, there are three sparkling instrumentals, two of which are Crowder originals - "Panamint Polka" and "Californio" are Slim’s and "Cowboy Waltz" is a traditional. In addition, there are several cowboy classics that everyone always enjoys - "Ghost Riders in The Sky," "Frankie & Johnny," and two Jimmy Rodgers standards, "Gambling Bar Room Blues," and "Cowhand’s Last Ride."
Purely for laughs are "Wahoo" and "Barnacle Bill," and purely for cowboy romance are Crowder original songs "I Like the Desert in the Fall," "Red Rock, Juniper, And Sage," and "In Old California." In addition, Crowder’s own "Yodelin’ Bill," is an excellent yodeling song featuring Slim’s superbly trained, world-class epiglottis. Loads of fun.
Sourdough Slim is always Sourdough Slim, but this album is a refreshingly shinier version. Really top notch.
