Ranch life is the material source for Montana songwriter Stephanie Davis.  A one-room homestead cabin built in 1900 by a Finnish bachelor fawmaer immigrant now serves as Stephanie’s writing and recording headquarters.  "When I first saw it sitting out in the field, the cows had been living in it and it was in tough shape," she says.  "I’m sure the neighbors thought I was crazy, but I took one look at it and said ‘that’s it—my writing cabin!’  After a summer of re-roofing, wiring, chinking, and restoring, Stephanie moved her desk in and began working on her songs and stories.
Songwriting is hands-down the most aggravating, exhilarating, enlightening, challenging, and exasperating thing I have ever done... and that's probably why I am so crazy about it."
The fourth-generation Montanan spent several years in Nashville, honing her craft and having her songs recorded by such artists as Garth Brooks, Roger Whittaker, Shelby Lynne, Martina McBride, Laurie Lewis, and Don Edwards.  In addition, she has gained respect as a soulful vocalist and talented multi-instrumentalist, both live and in the studio.
Stephanie has three self-produced CDs out on her own label, Recluse Records.  In addition to recording her songs, her dear friend Garth Brooks included her for several stints in his touring band, and in 1994 was kind enough to invite her to open his shows for the year.  She is featured in Hal Cannon's documentary film called "Why The Cowboy Sings", which premiered at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and on PBS stations nationwide.  In addition, she keeps busy singing at festivals, cowboy poetry gatherings, and concerts throughout the west.
