Waddie Mitchell began cowboyin’ at a young age, in Nevada.  Later on, Waddie took up cowboy poetry and helped out in the organization of the 1984 Elko Cowboy Poetry Gathering, which he also participated in.  He has won awards for his work and appeared on numerous TV shows, and has been featured in many popular magazines, books and other publications.
In 2000, Western Jubilee Recording Company introduced the CD release "A Prairie Portrait," featuring Waddie Mitchell, Don Edwards, and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.  "A Prairie Portrait" was awarded the 2001 Western Heritage Award for Traditional Western Music (Recording Artists - Don Edwards, Waddie Mitchell, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra; Producers - Rich O'Brien and Kathleen Fox Collins).
